A journalist, poet, anti-fascist, and socialist, Alessandro Sisca (Riccardo Cordiferro) (1875-1940) was born in San Pietro in Guarano, Province of Cosenza, Italy. Immigrating to America in 1892, he founded the literary journal La Follia di New York with his father, Francesco, and brother, Marziale (1878- ), in 1893. Michelangelo Crisafi (1893-1972) was born in the province of Palermo, Sicily. To escape and protest the regime of King Emanuel III, Crisafi left Italy in 1912 and settled in New Haven, Connecticut where for forty-five years he labored for the Tilo Roofing Company. Crisafi's first love was the life of poet and writer, and in 1916 he took the pseudonymn of Germoglino Saggio, under which he published prolifically in Italy and the United States.
